Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to:
a)M/V Pribilof Engine Room: An extension cord was in use to power a
portable drill,
but the cord was missing its grounding prong thereby exposing the user to
the
potential hazard of electrical shock and/or burns.
NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and effective abatement method
would be to
replace the defective plug connector with a new three prong type.
b)Refer Flat: A 110/120 volt electrical outlet was missing its cover
thereby exposing
employees to the potential hazard of electrical shock and/or burns from
contact
with
exposed live parts.
NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and effective abatement method
would be to
install a new cover.
c)Refer Flat: The two 480 volt panels had unused openings in their
enclosure which
were not effectively closed thereby exposing employees to the potential
hazard of
electrical shock, burns through inadvertent contact with these panels.
NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and effective abatement method
would be to
insert a blank snapin cover into each opening.
d)Engineers Room: Bare energized light sockets exposed employees to the
potential
hazard of electrical shock, burns through inadvertent contact with those
live parts.
NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and effective abatement method
would
be to
install a light bulb into each socket.
