General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. Breaks, bruises and possible death from falling up to 10 feet from straight and inclined ladders to a concrete floor while carrying a 5 gallon bucket of material up to a platform. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a rope or other hoisting device to lift the material to the platform so employees can climb the ladder using three points of contact at all times as stipulated in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A14.3, Safety Requirements for Ladders, 1984, Sections 9.1.2, 9.2.1, 9.2.2, 9.2.3. Additional abatement information is required for this item.
