Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to:
Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico:
El patrono no
proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten
causando o que
puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados
estaban expuestos
a:
Employees were exposed to respiratory diseases such as, but not limited to
asthma;
allergic reactions and dermatitis do to the presence of molds at the
worksite. At
Walgreens #00438, at Plaza Noreste Shopping Center, at the storage area,
in front of the
office door, where employees transit moving merchandise to the store area
from storage
area, an air sampling procedure was performed. The air sampling performed
on july 23,
2003 exceeded 1000 colony forming units per cubic meter. The following
were the
results:
a. Penicillium spp. (1700 colony forming units per cubic meter)
b. Cladosporium spp. (130 colony forming units per cubic meter)
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard is clean the air conditioning ducts.
Los empleados estuvieron expuestos a enfermedades respiratorias tales
como, pero no
limitadas a asma; reacciones alergicas y dermatitis por la presencia de
hongos en el lugar
de trabajo. En Walgreens #00438, localizado en el Centro Comercial Plaza
Noreste, en
el area de almacen, frente a la puerta de la oficina, por donde los
empleados transitaban
para poder llevar mercancia desde el almacen hacia el area de la tienda,
un muestreo de
aire fue realizado. El muestreo de aire realizado el 23 de julio de 2003
excedio las 1000
unidades que forman colonias por metro cubico de aire. Los resultados
fueron los
siguientes:
a. Pennicillium spp. (1700 unidades que forman colonias por metro cubico)
b. Cladosporium spp. (130 unidades que forman colonias por metro cubico)
Entre otros metodos de correccion, uno factible y aceptable es limpiar los
ductos del aire
acondicionado.
