Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Jobsite; west side, Employees engaged in window washing operation on eleven story building used 3/8"(9.5mm) wire rope that was not inspected before each installation to make sure it was not undersized or oversized, exposing employees to the hazard of falls from elevation. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to use wire rope that conforms to the following specifications: 5/16 inch diameter, 6 X 3 right regular lay; fiber core; extra improved plow steel, breaking strength 9,000 lbs that meet the recommendation referenced in the HI-LO Climbers Operator's Manual.

Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to use a shock absorbing lanyard not to exceed three feet in length with fall arrester installed on the lifeline in the proper direction above head that meet the recommendations referenced in the HI-LO Climbers Operation's Manual.on's
