Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish to employees employment and a place of
employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm
to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by falling
trusses that were not
adequately braced to prevent their collapse. On or about 12/18/99
employees were exposed to
the hazard of being stuck by collapsing wood roof truss system, in that
the trusses were not
properly braced to prevent their collapse.
Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard would
be: Follow the design and installation recommendation for adequate
temporary bracing as
designed by a Registered Professional Engineer,the manufacturer of the
trusses, or another
qualified individual designed in accordance with the guidelines for
bracing wood trusses from
the Truss Plate Institute.
