Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to falls from elevated surfaces:
a)Plant Storage Mezzanine above maintenance shop:  An industrial truck was
used to raise employees. The employees were standing on an open sided
platform not provided with hand rails. They were not protected from the
hazard of falling to the concrete floor below, on or about 12/01/97.
Abatement note:  One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among
others, to  correct
this hazard, is to provide a "safety platform" properly secured to the
lifting carriage and/or
forks as stipulated in ANSI B56.1-1975, Part III - Section 513, or
equivalent protection.
