Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from elevated surfaces: a)Plant Loading Dock facility: Employees were raised while standing on the forks of a Toyota fork lift truck, in order pry loose loading dock bay doors. The employees were not protected from the hazard of falling to the concrete floor below, on or about 03/10/99. Abatement note: One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard ,is to follow the instructions provided in the OPS training manual, fork lift operator training program (page 45); another alternative abatement method would be to use a safety platform (cage) firmly secured to the forks to raise personnel.
