North Carolina General Statue 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety
and Health Act of North Carolina:  The employer did not furnish to
each of his employees  condition(s) of employment and a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) struck by motor vehicles: warning signs were not posted
when employees were exposed to vehicular traffic. This
condition was observed on 10/31/97, while employees were
performing tree trimming operations along Peru Rd at the
intersection of Bell Point in Sneads Ferry.  The employer did
not take measures to assure compliance with company's safety
policy by not assuring advance informational warning signs
were deployed in advance (500, 1000, 1500 ft.) of the work
area in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control
Devices (ANSI D6.1-1971).
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement
method to correct this Hazard is to train employees with this
safety rule, monitor the use of warning signs, and utilize
disciplinary policy where necessary to assure compliance.y
