North Carolina General Statue 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees condition of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a)fire/explosion hazard - employee(s) were replacing a primary gasoline containment sump without effectively capping or plugging the vapor return line to the underground storage tank. The vapor return line was plugged with a rag and leaking gasoline creating an explosion hazard. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to cap of plug the line using approved equipment. (Reference: 1993 National Fire Code, NFPA 30 (Flammable and combustible Code, 1990 Edition), Appendix C, section C2-1)
