Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck and/or run over by grove goats (fruit loading trucks) which have an obstructed view to the rear, when they are operated in reverse gear: (a) Joshua Grove - Ford grove goat, Florida license tag number U38 60Q, was operated in reverse gear when there were employees in the area and the operator did not have an unobstructed view to the rear, on or about 4/18/98. AMONG OTHER METHODS, FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD ARE TO: 1. Install on the vehicle a reverse signal alarm audible above the surrounding noise level, or 2. Back up the vehicle only when an observer signals that it is safe to do so. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
