hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in
that, employees were
exposed to hydrogen sulfide gas in excess of the IDLH concentration 100
part per million (ppm):
F/V John N: On or about October 2, 1998, during rescue efforts, three
employees in the engine
room bilge were exposed to levels in excess of 119 ppm of hydrogen sulfide
gas which exceeds
the IDLH concentration of 100 ppm.
Feasible and useful methods to correct this hazard include mechanical
ventilation, respiratory
protection and continuous air monitoring of the space.
ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
