Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of sustaining an injury due to unsafe lift having broken and damaged parts, in that periodic inspections and preventive maintenance procedures, were not implemented to assure the continued safe operation of the automobile lifts. (a)Century Chevrolet, Inc., at 6105 W. 120th Ave., Broomfield, CO. On or before 09-04-98, the employer did not ensure that periodic inspections and preventive maintenance procedures in accordance with recommendations of the lift manufacturer, were implemented to assure the safe operation of the lifts: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to ensure that procedures are developed addressing the safety requirements for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of automotive lifts. This is required by ANSI/ALI ALOIM-1994, American National Standard for Automotive Lifts, Safety Requirements For Operation, Inspection And Maintenance as well as the manufacturer's operation, installation and maintenance manual. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (See enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were not provided training in the safe use and operation of the automobile lifts: (a)Century Chevrolet, Inc., at 6105 W. 120th Ave., Broomfield, CO. On or before 09-04-98, the employer did not ensure that operator training was provided for the service technicians who operate the lifts in the service dept. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to ensure that operators of automobile lifts are instructed in the safe use and operation of the lift using the manufacturer's instructions and warning labels as well as ANSI/ALI B153.1-1990, which requires that the lift manufacturer to supply operating instructions, general safety information, safety tips and warning labels with each lift manufactured. The employer shall display these materials in a conspicuous location in the lift area. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (See enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
