Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: At various work locations, cord and plug connected equipment, electrical cords, and receptacle outlets utilized by employees performing sewer cleaning and plumbing operations were not protected with ground fault circuit interrupters. Employees are exposed to an electrical shock hazard or electrocution. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is as follows: 1.Provide ground fault circuit interrupters on all cord and plug connected equipment and electrical cords that are used by employees at various work locations. 2.Prohibit employees from using cord and plug connected equipment and electrical cords that are not equipped with ground fault circuit interrupters. 3.Immediately remove, repair, or replace any damaged electrical cords and/or flexible cords on cord and plug connected equipment. 4.In the alternative, examine all cord and plug connected equipment and electrical cords on cord and plug connected equipment.
