NCGS 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: fall to a lower level while personnel are riding the line to their work stations. a)site - 3 employees were hoisted "christmas tree fashion" - on the hook of a gin pole derrick - to their work stations at heights between 175 ft. and 200 ft., on a new tower under construction; employees were attached to the hook with lanyards and the anti-two-blocking device was inoperative. (Ref ANSI B30.6-1977 Sec 6-3.3.3 e) One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to prohibit the practice of "riding the line".
