North Carolina General Statue 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety
and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to
each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees, in that employees were potentially exposed to falling
loads:
a)Frame shop: the carrier beam load block with a Coffing
hoist to lift home frames weighing approximately 1500
pounds over the partition and into the floor department
had not been load rated, reference: ANSI B30.17A-1994,
Section 17-1.1, paragraph (d)!.
b)Wall department: spreader bars used to lift and move
made-up walls weighing approximately 200 pounds to the
shell area were not load rated, reference: ANSI
B30.17A-1994, Section 17-1.1, paragraph (d)!.
Among other means, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to have an engineer calculate the rated load
for each of these components and clearly mark the load rating on
them.
