a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to
crush injuries:
a)jobsite -- on or about 5:00 PM on  07/08/98, employees were installing
44' 5"
long and 49' 5" long 2X4/2X6 parallel chord trusses on a 3750 square foot,

story building, when the roof trusses collapsed. Temporary bracing was
only in
place on both truss ends at the exterior walls and 1 location in the
middle of the
trusses.
One feasible method of abatement, among others, is to follow the Truss
Plate
Institute HIB-91 Summary Sheet commentary and recommendations for handling
and bracing metal plate connected trusses. Recommended temporary brace
spacing is 6' for trusses 32'- 48' long, and 5' for trusses 40' - 60'
long.
