Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that:
(a) Redi-Cut Foods Incorporated - "Onion Room", Line 950:  On or about
August 19, 1998,
employee(s) were working at operator stations at the automatically
controlled conveyor.
Where the conveyor was not guarded by location, position or guards, the
conveyor was not
equipped with an easily accessible emergency stop button for each operator
location.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to install
emergency stop buttons at each station, pull cords,or similar emergency
stopping devices as
prescribed by the ANSI/ASME B20.1-1990 5.11.2 (b)(2)(c)(1), "Safety
Standard for
Conveyors and Related Equipment".
Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the
requirements
of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
