Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to: Fall hazards while working from an elevated work platform
installing trusses
on the north side of a future Chick-Fil-A restaurant.  The work platform,
elevated to a height
of over 8 feet and supported by a Lull 644B-37 forklift, had not been
designed to protect
employees from falls.  Restraining devices such as railings, chains,
cables, or personal fall arrest
systems were not installed or in use.  No means of fall protection was
provided to protect
employees from falls.
Among other feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this
hazard are (1) Provide
employees with scaffolding utilized in conjunction with acceptable fall
protection equipment, (2)
Utilize machinery designed for the purpose of hoisting personnel.
Abatement Note:  Abatement certification is not required for this item.
Abatement was
observed by the CSHO during the inspection.on
