Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling loads: a) CF&I, L.P. dba Rocky Mountain Steel Mills, Pueblo, CO: Steel Making, north teeming crane, the employer affected the molecular structure of the steel when they welded a swivel restraint onto the nut of the 40 ton hook, thus exposing employees to crushing injuries. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazardous condition would be to have the manufacturer of the hook make the appropriate modifications to prevent hook swivel. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries: a) CF&I, L.P. dba Rocky Mountain Steel Mills, Pueblo, CO: Employees were exposed to crushing injuries in the following location: 1) Rod and Bar Mill, the billet charging line was not provided with an adequate number of billet stops to prevent the billets from bouncing off the charging line into the walkway. 2) Rail Mill, the bloom charging line was not provided with a bloom stop on the north end of the line. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazardous condition would be to install an adequate number of stops to ensure that the billets/blooms are not able to come off the charging lines. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
