09/11/98 Ignition sources were not eliminated prior to the refueling of
the Ground
Power Unit supplying power to a United Parcel Service DC8 aircraft.
Employee
was burned when the fuel nozzle contacted the live power cable connector.
NOTE: One feasible means of abatement is to shut down the Aircraft Ground
Power Unit (GPU) prior to servicing fuel and add a Training Module that
covers
servicing of aircraft support equipment as required by standard industry
practice.
