Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees
in that employees
were exposed to:
(a) In the Multivac room, a nitrogen gas piping system used to purge
oxygen from a meat
wrapping operation was not labeled or identified as to the nature of the
hazards contained
therein.
(b) The anhydrous ammonia piping system running throughout the plant, used
for
refrigerant purposes, was not labeled or identified as to the nature of
the contents contained
therein.
A feasible and attainable abatement measure for this deficiency would be
to follow the guidelines
established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI A13.1-1975)
in identifying
piping systems.
