North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrical hazards: a)Bridgestone/Firestone - employee using yellow flexible cord 12/3, type SJTW-A, VW-1, to power portable tools, was not provided with a GFCI. Reference: National Electrical Code 305-6 Ground Fault Protection for Personnel: Ground Fault Protection for all temporary wiring installations shall be provided to comply with (a) or (b). This section shall apply only to temporary wiring installations utilized to supply temporary power to equipment used by personnel during construction, remodeling, maintenance, repair, or demolition of buildings, structures, equipment or similar activities. National Electrical Code 305-6(a) Ground Fault Circuit- interrupters: If a receptacle or receptacles are installed or exists as part of the permanent wiring of the building or structure and are used for temporary electric power, GFCI protection shall be provided. One feasible and acceptable method, among others to correct this hazard is to assure that portable powered tools are provided with a GFCI when used with temporary wiring.
