likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a
crushing hazard:
The owner or employer did not establish periodic inspection procedures in
accordance with the
recommendations of the lift manufacturer in order to assure the continued
safe operation of the
lift (ref. ANSI/ALI ALIOM 1994 Sec. 5.1):
a)facility, service shop - where hydraulic frame lifts were used to lift
vehicles and
were not inspected daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly as specified by
ANSI/ALI
ALOIM-1994.  The lifts have been installed and in use for 30 years and
there was
not a manufacturer's nameplate on the lifts.

ALOIM-1994 "American National Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety
Requirements for
Operation, Inspection and Maintenance", which was adopted by the
Automotive Lift Institute,
Inc. a trade organization representing the Automotive Service Industry.

items should be inspected
on each type of automotive lift.  Section 5.6.2 includes inspection points
for all lifts, and section
5.6.3 includes inspection points for hydraulic lifts.
