General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: On or about 2-23-99, at the job site, the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to PVC pipes that were transporting compressed air and were not approved for that purpose. Among other meahods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to install metal pipe to transport the compressed air. Another method would be to install the only type of plastic pipe that has been approved for use with compressed air, that pipe is Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS), this ABS marking will be labeled on the pipe.
