Section 17(a) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 and Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to sever injury to exposed body parts when struck by projectiles from ruptured Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) plastic pipes transporting compressed air. a) At the plant, PVC pipe was used to transport compress air at pressures of 150 PSI, on or about 02/09/00. "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to completely encase the PVC piping in conduit or casing of sufficient strength to provide protection from external damage and deterioration." This citation requres an abatement verification per 29 CFR 1903.19.
