Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of crane failure and being struck by a falling load: a.Throughout the Plant - Employees were not protected from the hazards of crane falure and being struck by fallings loads resulting from not performing frequent and periodic inspections of the air-powered underhung hoists which were a component of the underhung monorail pedastel mounted jib cranes. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to comply with the requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B30.11 - 1973 entitled Monorails and Underhung Cranes and American Society of Mechanical Engineers/American National Standards Institute (AMSE/ANSI) B30.16 - 19 entitled Overhead Hoists (Underhung).
