Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of fire and explosion: a.Plant - Employees were not protected from the hazards of fire and explosion resulting from the ignition of the contents of the dust collection bin and related ductwork and the subsequent flame and pressure front that would be trasmitted through the ductwork within the plant. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to comply with the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 68 - Venting of Deflagrations, 69 - Explosion Prevention Systems and 650 - Pneumatic Conveying Systems for Handling Combustible Materials.
