Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire/explosion hazard(s) from the work place's dust/fiber collection systems. a.Finishing Department - Employees were not protected from the hazards of fire and explosion from the ignition of the contents of the Torit and Aget dust/fiber collection units. The Torit and Aget dust collection systems serviced finishing operations including, but not limited to, sanding, grinding, routing and lathing. ABATEMENT NOTE - Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to comply with the requirements of the "National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 68, Venting of Deflagrations"; "NFPA 69, Explosion Prevention Systems"; and "NFPA 650, Pneumatic Conveying Systems for Handling Combustible Materials".
