Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to being struck by a falling tree:
(a)Idaho L.A. Timber Sale, Wallace, ID: The Link Belt swing yarder's
guyline
was anchored to the base of a standing tree that was located approximately
30
feet from the landing area.  The tree was approximately 75 feet in height,
putting it within striking distance of the employees work area.  When
stress is
applied to the anchor tree during yarding operations it could uproot and
fall
into landing area.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard is fall all trees that are to be for guyline anchors and to anchor
to the stump.

for this item.

29 CFR 1910.180(b)(2):  All crawler, locomotive, and truck cranes utilized
on or after
February 15, 1972, did not meet the design specifications of the American
National Standard
Safety Code for Crawler, Locomotive, and Truck Cranes, ANSI B30.5-1968:
(a)Idaho L.A. Timber Sale, Wallace, ID: The Link Belt swing yarder's sky
line
running rope was used to yard logs after a full broken strand was detected
in
the rope which consisted of approximately 27 wires.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard is to remove from service running ropes with six randomly
distributed broken
wires in one lay or three broken wires in one strand of one lay as
required in ANSI
B30.5-1968.
