Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were working around 5 inch high steel protruding rods from the roof deck exposing themselves to an impalement hazard. Norther Illinois University, Engineering Building - Employees were working around 5 inch high steel rods exposed to impalement hazards. Among feasible means of abatement would be to: 1) Unscrew the 5 inch rods from the roof deck. 2) Construct a protective cover over each rod. NO CERTIFICATION OR DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
