Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards and that the personal protective equipment provided was not properly utilized during tree trimming: a) Scott's Tree Service and Landscaping, Inc., 4700 Drexelbrook Drive, Drexel Hill, PA - Personal protective equipment was not properly used in that it was secured to the same anchorage point used to support material being lowered to the ground. On 7/11/00, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard in that the common anchorage point for both the lifeline and the material handling failed, catapulting him approximately 60 feet to the ground. ABATEMENT NOTE: AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO TIE THE LOWERING LINE AND THE CLIMBING LINES INTO DIFFERENT LIMBS. NOTE: ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE 29 CFR 1910.132(a): Personal protective equipment was not provided and used when necessary whenever hazards capable of causing injury and impairment were encountered: a) Scott's Tree Service and Landscaping, Inc., 4700 Drexelbrook Drive, Drexel Hill, PA - Personal protective equipment was not properly used in that it was secured to the same anchorage point used to support material being lowered to the ground. On 7/11/00, and employee fell approximately 60 feet to his death when the common anchorage point for both the lifeline and the material handling failed. ABATEMENT NOTE: AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE RESCUE TRAINING. NOTE: ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIREDATION
