North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: hoist failure that would subject employees to falling overhead material hazards. a)production floor -- employees were using a four 1 1/2 ton Aero electric powered chain hoist to dip baskets of metal parts into a liquid bath. Periodic crane inspections were not conducted.(Ref. ANSI B30.16-1981, Sec. 16-2.1.1(2)) one feasible and acceptable method, among others, to correct the hazard is to have employees make and record the inspections in accordance with ANSI B30.16-1981, Sec. 16-2.1.1(2).
