recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by molten aluminum:
a)Building #1, Furnace Area, On or about 1/24/00, Where employees were
required to charge aluminum furnaces with scrap aluminum, the employer
failed to ensure that charge material (scrap aluminum) was free of
entrained
moisture, snow, and/ or ice.  Employees exposed to the hazard of being
struck by molten aluminum.
b)Building #1, Furnace Area, On or about 1/26/00, Where employees were
required to charge aluminum furnaces with scrap aluminum, the employer
failed to ensure that charge material (scrap aluminum) was free of
entrained
moisture, snow, and/ or ice.  Employees exposed to the hazard of being
struck by molten aluminum.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is
to:
1) Store scrap material in a heated area for a length of time long enough
to melt and
dry any snow, ice, moisture present.
2) Preheat charge materials to remove any surface and entrained moisture,
as set
forth in ANSI Z241.2-1989 paragraph 5.3.5.4.
