Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING STRUCK-BY A LIFTED LOAD DURING HOIST FAILURE: a)On or about 06/15/2001 the following hoist had no periodic or frequent inspections being conducted. 1.Wire Department: A Harrington 460 volt 2 ton Hoist, Serial Number # 368541, Model ES3B-19 used for lifting fork truck batteries. Among other methods, the feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1.Conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the hoists in accordance with ANSI B30.16, 1987 Overhead Hoists. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
