Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall from an aerial lift basket without the benefit of wearing a body belt with lanyard attached to the boom or basket: (a)At the Job-Site/Northeast Side of Hotel - Employees working 15 ft high on a Self Propelled Snorkelift Rough Terrain Truck with an Articulating Boom and Two Man Work Platform, Model # UNO414X4, Serial #9300540293; without wearing Personal Fall Arrest equipment full body harness & lanyard!; On or about 8/31/99. Abatement Notes: Among other methods,one feasible method to reduce the hazard is to: 1)Follow ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992-Boom Supported Elevating Work Platforms,section 8.8 states: "Ensure all personnel in the platform are wearing fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all times"; and 2)Train the employees in the proper procedures while operating aerial lifts, such as, but not limited to, the wearing of a safety belt with lanyard. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19
