Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from elevations: a)Garden City Levitz Furniture Store, Warehouse - Employees elevated over 25 feet on a Crown Order Picker were dismantling storage rack without fall protection; On or about 10/15/99. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible method to abate this hazard is to: 1.Utilize restraining device(s) while personnel are operating order picker trucks. The restraining device(s) must meet the requirements set forth in ANSI/ASME B56.1-1993. 2.Train all employees in the hazards of falls associated with operating an order picker truck at elevation and the proper application of fall protection. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19D
