Section 5 (a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard of falling:
(a) At the Job-Site/ Two employees working 60 ft high on a Self Propelled
Elevating Platform [JLG 800A Lift],/Serial # 1042480300045829, were
exposed to fall hazards while working from the basket without wearing a
harness or a lanyard. On or about 12/13/00.
ABATEMENT NOTES:
Among other methods, one feasible method to reduce this hazard it to:
1)Follow ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992-Boom Supported Elevated Work
Platforms,section 8.8 states:" Ensure all personnel in the platform are
wearing
fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all
times,"and
2)Train the employees in the proper procedures while operating boom
supported
platforms,such as but not limited to,the wearing the safety harness and
lanyard.
