Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to a fall from an aerial lift basket without the benefit of wearing a body belt with lanyard attached to the boom or basket: (a)At the Job-Site/South Side - Employee(s) were observed by the CSHO operating an elevated Self Propelled JLG Lift Rough Terrain Truck with an Articulating Boom and Two Man Platform, Model #600s, Serial #137994; Personal Fall Arrest equipment [full body harness & lanyard] was not available; On or about 02/28/01. Abatement Notes: Among other methods,one feasible method to reduce the hazard is to: 1)Follow ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992-Boom Supported Elevating Work Platforms,section 8.8 states: "Ensure all personnel in the platform are wearing fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all times". 2)Follow ANSI/SIA A92.6-1990-Boom Supported Elevated Work Platforms, section 7.6 states: "The user shall insure that the individual has been trained in accordance with the manufacture's operating and maintenance manual". ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19D
