Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an amputation hazard. a) Press Brake Department - The employer did not develop a "safe distance" program for the protection of employees that operate press brakes that do not have point of operation guards of devices. On or about 02/16/2000. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible abatement method would be to develop a "safe distance" program following the guidelines of ANSI B11.3.1982. NOTE:ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM. See page 2,"Notification of Corrective Action" for instructions.
