General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of puncture wounds: a) Employees were exposed to the hazard of puncture wounds from nails protruding from the ceiling of the crawl space below the filter room. Employees must enter the crawl space on a daily basis to clean the screen filters on the pool recirculating pumps. The approximate floor to nail distance in this area was 62 inches. Abatement Note: Among others, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to pound the nails flat into the crawl space ceiling so no sharp points are accessible. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
