Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by falling loads from suspended overhead conveyor: a)Plant, Laundry Area: Employees, working in the linen and uniform sorting area, were not protected from the hazard of falling laundry bags (40-70 lbs.), on or about 8/20/99. Abatement Note: One feasible and acceptable method among others to correct this hazard would be to erect safety canopies of sufficient strength over the employee work stations as stipulated in ANSI B20.1-1990, Section 6.18.2(h) or equivalent protection.
