General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a possibility of an exploding abrasive wheel: a) Sewickley, PA. In the assembly room, as you look at it, the right wheel of the Beuhler pedestal grinder, model TS-190 (3/4 horse power, 1700rpm) had evidence of grinding on the side of the wheel. Grinding on the side of the wheel can cause the wheel to explode causing serious or fatal injury to the user. Among others, feasible and useful means to abate this hazard is to train employees not to grind on the side of the wheel giving them the possible consequences and to post a sign explicitly warning them of the danger of side grinding on the wheel.ng
