Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to damaged or defective wire rope on the load line that could break and cause the load to fall: (a) Jobsite, Route 271 Nanty Glo PA: Employees were operating an aerial ladder truck equipped with a crane hook attachment with wire rope that was broken, crushed and damaged. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to inspect the wire rope prior to use of the device and develop procedures and/or provide training to employees on the proper techniques to reeve wire rope and inspect wire rope.
