North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)facility, maintenance garage - employer modified automobile lift serial number 79101792 with 4 inch spacer blocks. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to inform the manufacturer of the modification and have them evaluate it to determine that the automobile lift will operate safety using this method. (Ref) American National Standard (ANSI) B153.1-1990 7.1.3 Modifications to any lift shall not be made without the prior written consent of the lift manufacturer.
