Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) The hazard of being burned by 180 degree water while working in or around the hot water heaters due to the safety valves being improperly plumbed. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to heed the manufacturers warning and pipe the discharge side of the safety relief valves to the floor or to a drain according to recognized plumbing practices and codes. __ Abatement certification or documentation is NOT required for this item.
