were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to

were exposed to:

Employees using auto lifts to raise up and do repairs underneath
automobiles were
exposed to the hazard of being struck or crushed by the falling lift
carriage with
the car on it if the lift chain fails and the backup safety latches are
not engaged.
Three of the four blue Bishomon hydraulic car lifts in the auto repair
shop had
non working safety latches due to broken springs; on or about 5/24/00.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would
be
to establish a preventative maintenance program which would include
periodic
inspection and repair of safety devices following the manufacturers
specification,
as referenced in American National Standard for Automotive Lifts-Safety
Requirements for the Construction Care and Use ANSI/ALI (Automotive Lift
Institute) B153.1-1990, section 7.3.
