Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
Methode Electronic, Inc. the employer did not provide hazard awareness
training to the
maintenance employee exposed to potential eye and skin hazards when
entering the laser room.
Among other methods,one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to provide
training to the employee working around laser. The level of training
should be commensurate
with the degree of potential laser hazard as prescribed by the American
National Standard
Institute, ANSI Z136.1-1993 and further addressed in American Conference
of Governmental
Industrial Hygienist, "A Guide For Control of Laser Hazards.
