General-duty citation text
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of operating a lawn mower tractor on a slope that exceeded manufacturer's recommendations. a) On or about 12/05/00 on the 17th hole of the Boca Rio Golf Course, an employee operated a Jacobson lawn mower on a slope greater than 12.5 degrees, exposing the employee to the hazard of being crushed, trapped or thrown in the event of a roll over. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard is to train employees following the manufacturer's operator's manual for equipment they may be allowed to operate. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
