Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a), Annotated Code of Maryland: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:12/09/99 Condition:An employee did not have all co-workers in view before operating the compactor door exposing the employee standing in the trash compactor to crushing injuries. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to train employees in the safe operation of the equipment to ensure that all co-workers are in view before operating or moving any controls or the unit. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
