Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a.The employer failed to maintain, inspect, and operate the three automotive lifts as required by the ANSI/ALOIM standard for Automotive Lifts: 1.The lifts did not have the manufacturer's identifying data placed on them and the employer was using them without knowing their load capacity. The rated load capacity was not seen on the lifts. 2.The employer did not have documentation of the employees being trained to operate the lifts. The manufacturer-provided instructions and warning labels and the Automotive Lift Institute publications, "Lifting It Right" and "Safety Tips", 4.2.2 ANSI/ALI B153.1-1990 were not available. 3.The employer failed to provide documented periodic inspection results on the lifts. One of the lift's "pole", used to prevent lateral movement of the lift, had been removed and not replaced. 4.The employer failed to establish a periodic preventive maintenance program for the lifts. REFERENCE: ANSI/ALI ALOIM - 1994 - Safety requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance of Automobile Lifts. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards, among others, is to follow the requirements of the ANSI/ALI ALOIM 1994 standards.
